What We Are Doing in the Community

Nick Cannon was honored by Kirk and Anne Douglas with the “Anne Douglas Center for Woman Award” for his “vision, leadership and commitment” to human dignity and personal achievement. “It was very humbling to have the honor of meeting and being presented with an award by the legendary Kirk Douglas” said Nick. “This was a very special and proud moment for me, and I appreciate the Douglases and the Los Angeles Mission for allowing me to be a part of their prestigious event. I look forward to continuing my work with them to help fight hunger and homelessness.”

Nick Cannon Foundation will continue the work of its Chairman, Nick Cannon, with Feeding America. As a member of the Feeding America Entertainment Council, Nick teamed up with Feeding America and Campbell Soup Company to urge Americans to Stamp Out Hunger. Feeding America and fighting hunger is a cause close to my heart, said Nick. As a child, my family and I visited food pantries from time-to-time. I’ll never forget those days and the people and organizations that helped us get through rough patches. I’m proud to support Feeding America and their mission to end hunger in America. Together, we can all do our part to help those in need.”

Nick Cannon Foundation will continue to integrate philanthropic opportunities with the Wild N Out Tour. Nick Cannon, who grew up in Charlotte, presented $10,000 to Kimberly Timmons-Hampton to help her family with medical and education expenses. The check presentation was made at the Spectrum Center during the Wild N Out stop in Charlotte. After the Nick Cannon Foundation put out a call for single mothers in need of financial help to the Charlotte Hornets Foundation and the Crisis Assistance Ministry, Timmons-Hampton, who has two children, was chosen for the grant. Timmons-Hampton has a 5-year-old autistic son with special needs assistance in school. Timmons-Hampton, who worked in financial services for a decade with benefits, a 401(k), and medical insurance, lost her job after complications from surgery that required a second emergency surgery. She lost her job when her financial services department was downsized and didn’t qualify for severance or medical insurance, too. Timmons-Hampton is in training to earn certification to become a medical office administrator. Click here to see more: https://youtu.be/jwdZ4QpIWhs

Nick Cannon brought his Wild N Out show to State Farm Arena in Atlanta but did a lot more than just hit the stage. The Nick Cannon Foundation helped change a very deserving woman's life. Nick was even awarded his own day by the Atlanta City Council. Things got even more special when the Nick Cannon Foundation put out a call for single moms in need of financial help on social media. After sifting through multiple submissions, a mother was chosen to receive $5,000. She's the sole caregiver of her 27-year-old son who is handicapped with cerebral palsy.

Unfortunately, her son is unable to walk, feed himself or do anything because he functions like a 3 to 4-year-old, according to family. She's also disabled and unable to work herself, but she is responsible for caring for her son. She was beyond grateful to receive the generous donation.

The Nick Cannon Foundation also awarded a $5,000 check to the Stinson Family of Atlanta, a low-income Section 8 couple with eight children. Click here for more...

Nick Cannon Foundation constructed the Ncredible Sport Court at Smithfield Elementary in Charlotte as a part of its commitment to the health and wellness of children. Through participation in sports students learn key behaviors and attitudes to achieve success in the classroom. Additionally, participation in sports is shown to improve health by encouraging fitness and healthy eating, as well as decreased use of drugs and alcohol among youth. Statistically boys and girls in leadership roles have participated in sports and have used the lessons learned as a catalyst for their success. The Nick Cannon Foundation combines a positive experience in sports with strong messaging and tools to increase success in school as a practical solution that can improve the lives of children and help them be successful adults.

Nick Cannon Foundation partnered with the Jr. NBA, NBA, and WNBA in sponsoring a group of kids from Boys & Girls Clubs for All-Star Weekends in both Charlotte and Chicago. All kids received free Steph Curry sneakers by Under Amour, NBA gear, and took part in basketball drills with NBA All-Stars!

The Jr. NBA is the official youth basketball participation program of the NBA. The Jr. NBA aims to develop a lifelong passion for the game of basketball in boys and girls by teaching them the fundamentals of the sport while instilling core values including teamwork, respect and sportsmanship. The Jr. NBA Philosophy is to share the game of basketball with youth across the world by teaching skills, values, and wellness in a positive and fun environment. The Jr. NBA’s holistic approach is intended to strengthen the culture of youth basketball, teach life lessons, and empower youth to live a full and healthy life. The Jr. NBA believes this philosophy leads to developing complete and well-rounded basketball players and individuals.

Nick is most proud of his role, as Board Director of St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children in New York City. Nick was first introduced to St. Mary’s in 2013, when he was asked to emcee their Annual Times Square fundraising event. At the time, he knew very little about St. Mary’s or the remarkable children entrusted to St. Mary’s care. Since Nick’s first visit, he has been a loyal supporter and an advocate for children with special needs. He has used his celebrity status, contacts, and determination to open many doors for St. Mary’s Kids. He appeared in radio and television spots promoting the organization and asking for support. He launched a social media campaign, Nick’s Ncredible Kids of St. Mary’s with its own microsite, targeting his 5 million followers. Nick also joined the Board of St. Mary’s in order to further their mission every day. In gratitude for his ongoing generosity, commitment, and advocacy efforts on behalf of St. Mary’s Kids, Nick was honored at St. Mary’s annual benefit dinner and concert at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square, aptly named A Tribute to Nick Cannon. Nick continues to be a familiar face at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children, much to the delight of the patients.
