What We Are Doing in the Community

Nick Cannon partners with Microsoft for STEM initiative

Hold Saturday morning workshops and training for youth on media applications in areas such as coding, podcast development, filming, documentaries, radio, editing, photography, short stories, etc.

Sponsored by the Microsoft Store, in partnership with The Ford Foundation’s Men of Courage Program, Campaign for Black Male Achievement, VIP Mentoring and Powered to Dream, the event also included technology, leadership, mentoring and professional development workshops. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of jobs in STEM fields is expected to grow by one million by 2022. Yet, African-Americans and minority males make up just 2.2-percent of those working in STEM occupations.

The MANCODE national initiative included an initial 12-city tour (Detroit, MI; Chicago, IL; Cleveland, OH; Dallas, TX; Baltimore, MD; Los Angeles, CA; New York, NY; Atlanta, GA; St Louis, MO; Houston, TX; Charlotte, NC; and Sacramento, CA) and year-round free STEM related workshops at Microsoft stores in the U.S. and Canada.

Nick Cannon Foundation will continue its work with GEAR UP. Nick Cannon and NCredible Entertainment kicked off National GEAR UP Day at Santa Ana College (SAC) to promote the importance of college attendance and academic achievement among more than 400 intermediate and high school students from the Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD).  SAC and SAUSD, in concert with the University of California at Irvine (UCI), Latino Health Access and the Delhi Community Center, form the Santa Ana GEAR UP Partnership, which has reached more than 20,000 students since 1999 at six intermediate and four high schools with critical messages and resources to urge academic scholarship, high school graduation and increase the college-going rate from our community.
